I have two chinchillas, Hemuli and Vinnie, which are the softest, fluffiest creatures imaginable. They are brothers and always close together, as you can see from the photo I took this morning:
Chinchillas are basically little fur balls, who hop around. Unless they get an energy peak and run around bouncing off the walls. If you’ve never seen it, check this video. It is not possible to keep a straight face with these little critters.
Because chinchillas are social animals, you should always have at least two of them. Many people find that they actually want to have even more than that… That’s where chinchilla mania comes along.
Chinchillas just love cuddling together, on top of each other or side by side. They also talk to each other – when they are happy they sound a bit like doves. When they are agitated they may bark like a small dog.
Did you wonder where my chinchillas have gotten their names? Vinnie is a name that the breeder of these brothers had given him. But Hemuli’s original name we had to change. He was called Vernon :-o. That’s not acceptable in a Potterhead household, so he was renamed after a character in the Moomin university. Hemuli (Hemulen in English) is a Moomin character with special interest in botany, which suits perfectly to chinchillas.
