I love all dogs, but some of them are more inspiring artwise than others. Bulldog is a breed that just begs to be made into graphics. This multicolour series of bulldogs illustrates the extraordinary form of this dog.
Unfortunately, this exaggerated form is also a major drawback for the actual real-life bulldogs. The breeds with unnaturally short noses often suffer from brachycephalic syndrome, which causes severe respiratory distress. That’s why I prefer these dogs on the drawing board instead of real life. As illustrations, they are only fantasy, as they should have remained.
Bulldogs have a long history. The breed was used in bullfights in the 17th century. When the fights were forbidden, the breed was about to disappear. However, it was bred into a much less aggressive version and also a much more exaggerated form. The old bulldog is quite a different dog from the current version. But there are actually some breeders that try to transform the breed into a healthier and less exaggerated version.
