It’s the gift giving season and the wonderful annual problem again: What to give? If you’re pondering this as much as I do every year, I hope my Bookworm’s Wishlist series will help. Let’s hop on the sledge and chase the best novels to include in Santa’s bag!

Jules Verne Journey to the centre of the Earth

Jules Verne: Journey to the Center of the Earth & K.W. Jeter: Infernal Devices

I’m starting my December Gift Guide with a classic and a complement to it. Jules Verne is certainly a classic and any of his works would do equally well, but from the second novel, Infernal Devices, you’ll guess where I’m heading for – steampunk.

These are the classics of the genre. Verne is familiar to me, but K.W. Jeter I haven’t yet read. After reading the introduction to this novel, I’m intrigued though – it’s pretty clear that Cassandra Clare has had some inspiration from this book to her works in the Shadowhunters: Infernal Devices series… which are definitely among my favourites. On the other hand the reviews on the Goodreads are so contradictory on Jeter’s work, that it alone evokes some curiosity. It is clear though, that Infernal Devices is not to everybody’s taste.

K W Jeter Infermal Devices

K.W. Jeter is said to have coined the name steampunk, but he’s also written plenty on the scifi front.
