Holly Black & Cassandra Clare are a golden duo when it comes to the Magisterium series. My reaction to the first book in the series was a bit hesitant – what with the odd mushrooms?! – but the story has swallowed me after that. The books are filled with action, mysteries, emotions and surprises. All these are essential elements to keep the middle grade reader interested. And the length of the novels is just right too for the target segment.
In the third part of the series – the Bronze Key – Call, Tamara and Aaron have some tough choices to make. Call’s life is under threat and as usual, the adults of the magic world don’t seem to have a clue. The trio is trying to find out who is behind the murder and who is the mole that seems to have dug its way into the Magisterium. But in the suspense of the imminent death threat, romance seems to blossom too. Call finds out that he might have feelings he didn’t think he had. Towards the end of the novel the stakes get higher and an ominous premonition comes true. The life will never be the same for Call anymore.
I guess there’s no way around it, I’ll have to grab the fourth book and let myself disappear into the magical world of Call and Tamara once again. The Silver Mask promises a bit darker shades already, as Call is getting to know the dangers of the death.
Perhaps I’ll just add the Silver Mask on my Bookworm’s Wishlist for Santa. 🙂
